Jesus says not to be surprised if the world hates you, after all it hated him first. So we are not to become discouraged when we see and experience the hate the world throws at Christians.

1 John 3:13; Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.

John 15:17-20;  This is my command: Love each other.

“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.

In a world with so many voices calling for justice, inclusion and equality, it is interesting that it is those who’s voices are loudest, are the ones excluding Christians? There seems to be less and less tolerance for those who Claim Christianity their religion.

There is a global increase of Christian persecution that no one is hearing about. Stories like the hundreds killed the past month in Nigeria that major news media outlets have been stunningly silent on.

The persecution of Christians is increasing year over year. Across the globe, more than 215 million believers face intimidation, prison—even death—for their faith in Jesus Christ. That’s one in twelve Christians worldwide. [opendoorsusa]

It isn’t just everywhere else Christians are being persecuted, it is now happening with frequency in our own back yard.

  • Yale law school is now pulling funding from any students working for Christian organizations¹
  • Chick-fil-a restaurants have been banned from doing business in Texas and Chicago airports because of their Christian values.²

Below is an opinion piece written by a Mexican National living in the United States. She is commenting on the injustice her daughter’s teacher experienced. He was fired for being a racist; his crime was showing his class a video. You can read her entire article HERE, and see the video below. Judge for yourself if this warranted the loss of a lively-hood?

When I witness what our “social justice warrior” parish and school leaders have done to humiliate and destroy the career of the most exemplary Christian teacher in the school, I actually feel that I will at some point be persecuted for my Catholic faith, values and principles.³

Being a Christian today is no longer the comfortable proposition in the West that we have enjoyed for centuries. Bigotry and persecution is ramping up and many Christians find themselves compromising their faith to avoid the hatred directed towards them, others are standing firm. They are the ones making the news.

It is ironic that the ones crying so loud for equality and tolerance are the ones most likely to be exhibiting the least of both.
