We have to be careful as Christians not to condemn others for what we perceive as greater transgressions then we are guilty of. Even more so, not to judge those outside the church for their lifestyles.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13; What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside…

Those of us who claim the name of Jesus tend to categorize sin, some greater and some lessor. For some reason pride, lying, lusting, infidelity are more acceptable in some Christian circles than the lifestyles of some unbelievers.

James the brother of Jesus, says we are all guilty of sin, from the one who commits murder, to the one who murders another person’s reputation. God hates all sin as it cost Him his Son’s life. God doesn’t wink at one sin, and bring judgment for another.

Matthew 5:21-22; [Jesus] You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.

James 2:10-11; For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws. For the same God who said, “You must not commit adultery,” also said, “You must not murder.” So if you murder someone but do not commit adultery, you have still broken the law.

Hold Your Tongue and Do it

James 3:9-10; With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

Wow, am I feeling convicted writing this. We’d best spend less time telling others about what God says and more time doing what God says.

James 1:22; But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

James 1: 19-21; My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Many of us are fooled into believing even so slightly maybe that we are better than the next guy. The problem is, we have forgotten that the next guy is you and me

1 John 1:8-9; If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Jesus paid the price for all of us who struggle and mess up. He suffered as much for that scruffy person next to you at church who smells of smoke, as He did for the prideful Christian offended by him.

James says mercy will triumph over judgment, so let’s be thankful and mindful that it is only because of Jesus that we are escaping what we fully deserve.

James 2:13; There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.
