What changed when Jesus Christ was raised from the dead on Easter morning?
Humanities relationship with God changed. We are now able to approach the throne directly ourselves, where before only a priest could do that.
We also were given a great gift, that gift is eternal life through Jesus Christ who paid the price for our rebellion and sin. He made it possible for each of us to become children of God
John 3:16; For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Though many did, and continue to reject Jesus Christ, some changed their minds when he was resurrected. How do we know?
In the book of John Jesus’ brothers mocked him.
John 7:3-5; and Jesus’ brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles! You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!” For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.
Some in his family even believed he was insane.
Mark 3:20-21; One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldn’t even find time to eat. When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they said.
The only one of his family recorded at the crucifixion of Jesus was his mother Mary. His brothers did not believe he was who he claimed to be, the Son of God.
But later, the apostle Paul, who is recognized by ancient historians as a scholar, and a credible historian himself, records that at least one of Jesus’ brothers converted and became a believer after Easter Sunday.
Galatians 1:18-20; Then three years later I went to Jerusalem to get to know Peter, and I stayed with him for fifteen days. The only other apostle I met at that time was James, the Lord’s brother. I declare before God that what I am writing to you is not a lie.
Jesus’ brother James, became an apostle after he was convinced that he saw Jesus after he had been resurrected. Something life changing happened to James, so life changing that the Roman historian Josephus records that he was stoned to death by Ananus ben Ananus¹, rather than renounce Jesus as the Son of God.
James was not the only brother who converted after Easter.
Acts 1:12-14; Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the Zealot), and Judas (son of James). They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.
What about those who say Jesus never existed and the bible is just myths. Well, the best thing to do is see what atheists say about the bible and Jesus. There is too much evidence for the validity of the bible to summarily dismiss it as fable or myth.
Dr. Bart Ehrman is an agnostic/atheist who disputes Jesus was the Son of God, but as one of the worlds most respected ancient text experts, he has no doubt Jesus existed. The 2 minute video below is Dr. Ehrman is a guest speaker a Freedom From Religion conference. He is responding to a question about there being no evidence Jesus even existed.
Below is Dr. Gary Habermas, who is recognized as one, if not the world’s leading expert on the resurrection, and the authenticity of the apostle Paul’s writings.
Easter changed the world two thousand years ago. Jesus changed the lives of those who know him then, and those who know him today.
Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave. – Jesus
