Are you feeling like you are failing God? Are thoughts of giving up trying filling you mind because you keep failing, and don’t think that you will ever be good enough for God? this is a twisted lie from the Devil himself that contains error and truth.

No one has failed more than I have. Over the years, I have ruined relationships and caused others to turn from God instead of wanting to know more about him. My unwillingness to submit all of my life to God, and the compromising with my sins, has made God look weak and unappealing to some around me because of my behavior. If it were not for some important truths and God’s amazing grace, I would have given up by now.

I have discovered some great news. The truth is we are not good enough, never will be. The lie is that God expects us to earn his favor by proving ourselves with good deeds. It is God himself who provides us with what we need, it is his righteousness we receive and he accepts in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is Christ’s righteousness that saves us not our own. We may not “feel” like this is true but the word of God says it is. Who are we going to believe? Our feelings or God?

Are you guided by your feelings, or as some would say your heart? Have they ever fooled you? Many of us fear things that have not happened and probably will never happen. We worry about events that have not occurred and rarely do. Feelings are not a very deceptive barometer of our reality.

You may feel that God is now where to be found, but he is working in you right now. Our “feelings” are misleading, they have nothing to do with the reality of God’s truth. If God tells you he is at work in you, and your righteousness is his free gift to you, Not earned, “feelings” don’t enter into it. Relationship with God is not performance based, it is belief based.

Just choose to believe what God says and take him at his word. Stop relying on unreliable emotions. Did you know the desire you have to change is from God? And when God gives you a desire, he also gives you the means to act on it and succeed.

Philippians 2:13

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

2 Peter 1:3-4

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life… These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

The power God is talking about is the Holy Spirit who he has sent to live in each believer. God’s Spirit is apart of us.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?

God’s Promises

These are truths from God that are not affected by our feelings.

  • He gives us the desire to change and to please him.
  • He also gives us everything we need to carry out his will
  • He gives us the Holy Spirit to help us and make changes that we cannot

God is at work in us whether we feel it or not, and he has given each believer the power to be victorious though many mistakenly think they don’t have any. The battle for truth or error is our mind.

The Enemy

The believer battles on two fronts, our own sinful flesh / desires and a very real spiritual enemy.  This enemy influences us through our thoughts and our emotions. If he can get us to operate in that realm, he can manipulate, confuse and frustrate us.

Ephesians 6:11-13

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy…

1 Peter 5:8

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

The opposition to living a godly life is real whether you believe it or not. For the follower of Christ, the devil has only the power you grant him. If you let him, he will mess with your mind bringing doubt in God, and doubt about his word. Because God’s Holy Spirit lives in each believer, the devil is limited to outside harassment aimed at destroying faith. That is why when it feels like the walls are crashing down, we stand on the truth of the word of God.

If you want a breakthrough, you need a revelation of who God is, what his promises are, and that there is real opposition to you fulfilling Gods plan for your life.

Already Won the War

The good news is the fight is not ours, it is God’s and he has already won. The problem is coming to a realization of this truth. Those who trust in Christ have already overcome this world, everything that stands against us and the sin that stained us.

John 16:33

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”(Jesus)

1 John 5:5

And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Every believer has the Holy Spirit living inside them. If we let him, he will take take authority over our sinful nature, and any spiritual assault that may come our way. It is our choice whether we completely submit to all God has for us, or continue on our own misconceived authority and in our own perceived wisdom.

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes;

fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

James 1:22-25

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
