Many people have heard the expression “Born Again” Christian or “Born Again” believer, but many don’t actually know what that means, including some Christians.

The born again moniker is used for believers six times in the New Testament bible. It denotes a fundamental state of the follower of Jesus Christ. Some Christian sects like the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that a believer does not have to be born again to reach God’s eternal kingdom. The problem with that is, you have to ignore an awful lot of scripture to deny this fundamental doctrine of Christianity.

John 3:3; Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.

John 3:7; So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again. Jesus

Jesus himself taught that we must be born again, so why do some SECTS of Christianity deny that Jesus said this?

The book of John was once thought to have been written well into the second century AD, making it an unreliable historical source. That is until a fragment of papyrus was discovered called P67.

but what is being born again? The person Jesus was talking to was just as mystified as many of us.

John 3:4;What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?

What Jesus was saying is that when we believe, we receive the Holy Spirit. By receiving the Holy Spirit we become reborn as our spirits are reunited with God. We were dead in our sins and like a new birth, we leave that all behind starting a new life in the spirit wanting to please God.

John 3:8;  he wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.

John 3:5-6;  I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. – Jesus

Being born again, is the incredible miracle and privilege of being indwelt by God’s Spirit. It is by God’s Spirit alone that we can do anything at all that will please God. Every follower of Jesus Christ is born again, and if they are not, well?

Romans 8:9-10;  But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.

Self control is a gift of the Spirit, without him we are helpless to live a godly life and are powerless against Satan’s influence.

Being born again has become a point of ridicule and mocking by many. Just think of it this way, when they mock you, they are actually mocking God who is in you.

1 Peter 1:2; God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:2-3;   Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. How foolish can you be? After starting your Christian lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?

No amount of effort or good deeds will get you any closer to heaven. God doesn’t count deeds, he looks at faith and the heart of a person. So remember this when someone mocks you for possessing the Spirit of Almighty God;

Matthew 5:11-12;

God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
