Father’s day is a wonderful day for some families, as Dads are honoured and loved by their children. For other families, it is a painful reminder that dad was not there or his memory only brings feelings of hurt and pain.
Then there are some dad’s who’s hearts are broken because their children have abandon them, forgetting or not realizing the sacrifice’s made when they were growing up.
And then there are those dads who have an empty place where the memory of a lost child is treasured. We have a Father in heaven who understands what all of us are going through, or have gone through.
He too has been abandoned, unappreciated and forgotten too by his children. He has lost a child, and has had to watch as many more choose a life without him. He also has the joy of others who love him and spend time with him, as he lavishes his love on them.
Whether you have an earthly father who has let you down, or a father who loves you, you have a heavenly father who loves you more than any earthly father ever could, who loves you unconditionally, and completely.
Pick up his letters and read a couple to learn all about his love for you that will not end with this life. You will find them in the New Testament.
1 John 3:1
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba [Daddy], Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory.
1 John 4:10
This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God.
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
his name is the Lord. A father to the fatherless
Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
